Lepidium meyenii, known commonly as maca, is an herbaceous biennial plant of thecrucifer family native to the high Andes of Peru around Lake Junin. Maca Extract research has found that maca is amazingly rich in amino acids, phytonutrients, fatty acids, and vitamins and minerals. It has an abundance of trace minerals, One of the great benefits of this amazing little root is that it can help regulate, support, and balance the hormonal systems of both men and women. It is not gender specific and works equally well for both genders.

An adaptogen, Adaptogens raise the physical body's state of resistance to diseases through health and emotional improvements. Adaptogens work gradually and not instantly needing to be continually used to receive the full benefits they offer.
Maca root has quite a number of substances including uridine, malic acid, glucosinolates, glucotropaeolin, macamides, and m-methoxyglucotropaeolin. Maca root also methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-beta-carboline-3-carboxylic acid (MTCA) which has an effect on the central nervous system. Maca is used for “tired blood” (anemia); chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS); and enhancing energy, stamina, athletic performance, memory, and fertility. Women use maca for female hormone imbalance, menstrual problems, and symptoms of menopause. Maca is also used for weak bones (osteoporosis), depression, stomach cancer, leukemia, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, erectile dysfunction (ED), to arouse sexual desire, and to boost the immune system.
